Carbondale Trails System -  Within the Heart of the Roaring Fork Valley

At the confluence of the Roaring Fork and Crystal Rivers, resting in the magnificent shadow of 12,953-foot Mt. Sopris, the Town of Carbondale offers spectacular scenery, outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities, and easy access to miles and miles of bike & pedestrian trails and pathways.  Mountain bikers are minutes away from accessing prime pristine BLM and National Forest wilderness areas suited for all single track skill levels. The accessible network of paved bike paths that dissect and lead in & out of Carbondale are suited for the entire family.  Whether you are interested in pavement or dirt, wheels or feet, Carbondale is an active community, and it shows in their trail system.  The abundance of nearby public lands, and the network of trails and paved paths leading there, makes hiking, biking, walking available to everyone who wants to be surrounded by mountains, towering red cliffs, and scenic vistas.

Both the 45-mile paved Roaring Fork Rio Grande Bike Path that runs from Carbondale to Glenwood Springs, and to Aspen, and also the paved Crystal River Valley Bike Path that extends 6-miles up the valley towards Redstone offer gently sloping riding conditions that’s suited for  families with kids of all ages.

For hard-core mountain bikers, and recreational hikers, the BLM Red Hill Special Recreation Management Area has a two-mile round trip to the Mushroom Rock vista and back, plus an entire trail system to hike or to explore steep climbs and technical single track, an area by far that is the local’s favorite.

Whether you are just looking for a relaxing hike or ride through the expansive two valleys surrounding us, or you would like to enjoy a technical and challenging hike or ride on a single track, Carbondale has it all in the way of trails for experts and paved paths for family fun and outdoor adventure.
